2007 – Nicholas Felton
Charting new territory
Representing data visually used to mean showing some graphs and pie charts. That was before graphic designer Nicholas Felton started documenting every detail of his life and organizing it into his now-famous “Feltron Reports.” Working on the Mac, he turned mundane facts into groundbreaking visualizations that went far beyond the expected. Felton’s annual reports, along with his data visualizations for clients like The New York Times, CNN, Facebook, and Esquire, have ignited a global passion for information graphics.

Nicholas Felton used the Mac to collect data and published his findings in his “2007 Feltron Annual Report.” The report visualized every detail in a year of his life — what he ate, who he emailed, and how many times he visited friends in the city. After his 2007 report, Felton received commissions from The New York Times and Wired. In the following years, he would also do work for Time, The Wall Street Journal, and Esquire, and he even created an iPhone app people could use to track their own data.

Released August 7, 2007
The redesign of the iMac was radical in every way. It was housed in a stunningly slim enclosure of pure glass and aluminum. In fact, only one screw was visible, and that was on the bottom. Despite its thin profile, it was an incredibly powerful computer for both work and home.

What people did with it
In 2007, the iMac was many things to Mac users. Here’s how people say they used it the most.
